Who should attend Senior Design Day and why?
All high school students, community college students, teachers, and counselors interested in science and engineering who attend Senior Design Day will learn about engineering and computer science education at the University of Michigan-Dearborn—the experiences of students, the types of projects engineers and computer science professionals work on, and career opportunities.
What is Senior Design Day?
Senior Design Day offers an introduction to the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) through one of the signature features of a CECS education: the senior design project. Each student in the College of Engineering and Computer Science completes a design-oriented course project as part of the senior year of his or her degree program. Senior Design Day will showcase winter 2013 senior design projects—all geared toward solving real-world industry problems—from the four CECS departments: computer and information science, electrical and computer engineering, industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, and mechanical engineering. The best of the projects for the academic year are entered into the Senior Design Competition (SDC).
What’s there to do at Senior Design Day?
• View SDC presentations and demonstrations of projects from the college’s departments
• Meet the students who developed these projects
• Interact with CECS students, faculty, and alumni to learn about studying in CECS and the career opportunities it provides students upon graduation
• Meet Formula SAE team members and learn about the Formula car projects and competitions
• View robot projects designed by the Intelligent Systems Club
• See a demonstration of the mobile app “CourseFeeds,” which allows UM students to share course content
• Attend the brief presentation “What Is Engineering?”
